ICOMOS Convention -What kind impact do registered UNESCO world heritage sites have on historical sites?
The Fourth online discussion of the „Context, Contrast, Continuity – Heritage Conservation and Urban Development“ series will focus on world heritage sites of the 20th Century in Germany and Israel. These and other relevant aspects will be discussed by referring/with reference to different buildings and urban projects – already registered UNESCO world heritage sites as well as potential future candidates/applicants.
Regina Stephan, art and architecture historian, opens with presenting a broad outline of the potential world heritage sites of Modern Architecture in Germany. Birgit Kann, representative/expert of the Bundesinstitut für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung, reflects afterwards on the possibilities with regard to scale and potential a UNESCO project can offer for urban development. From Israel, preservationist and architect Giora Solar presents the case for the city of Haifa as potential world heritage candidate. Guy Kav-Venaki, formerly the Head of the World Heritage Committee Israel, will contextualize the candidacy of Haifa with other (potential) UNESCO world heritage sites in Israel.
Andrea Jürges, Deputy Director of Deutsches Architekturmuseum, will be the moderator. The online discussion will be conducted in English.
