In late September we will host the History Takes Place – Dynamics of Urban Change, a multidisciplinary program dedicated to history and urban development at the White City Center. This year’s program will focus on the movement of people, materials and cultures as a central element of modern architecture, and how migration, transported goods, and cultural influences have shaped the urban landscape of Tel Aviv-Yafo.
During this international summer school, we will examine how migration and mobility affect individuals, cities, and societies, and reshape their identity; explore historical and contemporary relationships; and study the urban manifestation of the ideas and heritage of the Bauhaus: What has the Bauhaus represented in Tel Aviv-Yafo and in Israel throughout the years? How relevant is the Bauhaus to contemporary residents and visitors of the city? And can we adapt this heritage to the current needs while ensuring its conservation?
The History Takes Place – Dynamics of Urban Change summer school programs of the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius and the Gerda Henkel Foundation have taken place in various European cities, offering young scholars from around the world a chance to study and explore the effects of historical processes on the development of these cities.
Postgraduate students in history, art history, cultural studies, humanities and social sciences, as well as young architects and urban planners are invited to apply for the workshop, held in late September at the Liebling House in cooperation with the White City Center. Deadline for submissions: April 30, 2019.
