The School of the City Conference, Liebling Haus - White City Center, April 2020
The city as a spontaneous and multi-sensory space of research and action
Artists, architects, designers, researchers, and educators are invited to submit proposals for art and design works, workshops, research, and articles presented during the first School of the City Conference, to be held in April 2020 in Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
The conference will promote a cultural-artistic-architectural discussion about the meaning of city living and the experience of engaging with it in various settings, including schools, museums, and cultural institutions, featuring approaches and curricula dealing with the city - a body of knowledge that combines aesthetic, political, theoretical, and practical aspects with physical and poetic design practices: architecture, design, crafts, literature, cinema, and poetry, offering an extensive view of the relationship between body, urban space, and architecture.
The School of the City, operating at the Liebling Haus and in Tel Aviv-Jaffa schools, develops ideas and practices of thinking and observing the city as a learning space. We consider the city to be a place where we learn from each other, share knowledge, ideas, thoughts, skills, and experience. Rather than taking the urban space for granted, we see it as a platform for daily public discussion, enabling residents to examine their living habitat.
